Klima

Κlima, a picturesque traditional fishing village on the enchanting island of Milos, beckons visitors with its timeless charm and captivating history.

The story

Nestled within natural concavities of the rocks, this quaint village boasts multicolored two-storeyed houses, each a testament to the island’s cultural richness. In the ‘syrmata,’ the ground-floor storage spaces for fishermen’s boats, families once lived on the upper floors, creating a unique architectural tapestry. Today, many of these ‘syrmata’ are available for rent, offering visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the village’s authentic atmosphere and capture vibrant photos amidst the playful colors of doors and windows, accompanied by the sun-dappled laziness of local feline residents.

Beyond the captivating village life, the wider area of Klima invites exploration into Milos’ ancient past. The ruins of the old city and the island’s first port are testament to the historical layers that shape Milos. Following the decline of Fylakopi, the Dorians erected the second-largest city on the island (1100 BC – 800 BC), spanning from the south part of Trypiti to present-day Klima. Exploring the settlement’s acropolises on the hills of Prophitis Ilias and Pyrgaki, visitors encounter remnants of the ancient city: sections of the wall in the market-place, fragments of the Hellenistic and Roman-era temple, remnants of the ancient theater, and the very location where the iconic statue of Aphrodite of Milo was unearthed.

For an immersive journey through history, descend along the Trypiti road towards the Catacombs, and discover the walls of the ancient city. A little further, in an area believed to be the gymnasium, lies the spot where the local farmer unearthed the renowned statue of the goddess Aphrodite in 1820. Continue on the earth-road to reach the ancient Roman theater, where a daring path leads to the charming village of Klima. This exploration is more than a stroll through ruins; it’s an opportunity to connect with Milos’ past, uncovering the layers of civilization that have shaped this remarkable island over millennia.
